If you live in Germany, Oktoberfest is a must. It really is one, giant party. It begins with a parade, rain or shine, and ends in the fairgrounds. There a cornucopia of goodies from the food to the beer, from the rides to the beer, from the people to the beer. And did we mention the beer? There are only six brewery’s that are allowed in the fairgrounds, so your selection is limited, but the size of the servings (if you can handle it) more than make up for it. When we were there the second time the price for a LITER of beer was 9 DM and served in the famous huge mugs, carried by women with very large arms (they carry as many as nine at a time!). We ate and drank and walk and ate and drank and walked… About the only thing we didn’t do were the rides. Robert didn’t want to embarrass himself by puking all over the crowd.
We have two fairly long videos and some 47 photos of the parades and fairgrounds. The costumes are interesting and some of those in the parade look like they are having a ball, while others look like they’d much rather be somewhere else. Go figure.
